This week’s giveaway is from Kylie at Silent Lotus. Kylie’s craft is two-fold: jewelry-making using natural gems & minerals and traditional Chinese brush painting.
Kylie’s description of her craft & inspiration was so eloquent, I couldn’t help reprinting it:
My work is inspired by nature and simplicity and all of the beauty inherent in those. I experience my painting as very flowing, meditative, rythmic, serene. My intention is to convey the true qualities within each subject, allowing its life energy to guide my brush. It’s a struggle for me, being the thinker that I am, but I really try to honor the essence of brush painting and the idea that there are no corrections in painting strokes- what shows up on the paper was meant to be there.
My jewelry sort of balances those qualities in that I am very meticulous about it, honed in on every detail to make sure it’s perfect. But it’s also very like my art in its clean & simple, often flowing, lines and in the way that I intend each piece to enhance the incredible properties of the gemstones I use. And I think, for the most part, that both my paintings and jewelry have a lightness and delicacy in common.
Today’s giveaway is for this fabulous pair of turquoise & sterling silver earrings. Oval turquoise beads are wrapped in sterling silver wire & hang from sterling silver ear wires. Click on the photo to see a description of the properties of turquoise.
