Giveaway Monday: Traci from Blue Toad & Tremundo

So, Traci, tell us about your craft!

A large part of who I am is always creating something from little to big, from painting to sewing and everything in between. I enjoy any kind of handwork, especially with sewing, and like the challenge of creating something new from something that’s old or no longer used, thus up-cycling! Yet I find that I feel somewhat confined when I spend too much time at a sewing machine and feel exploring mixed media allows me the freedom of movement and expand the creative mind. At the moment, I enjoy working on journals since I literally start with a blank canvas, create mixed media and still able to sew by hand-binding the journals.

And how did you get started?

I’ve been sewing longer than I can remember. I “grew up” in Moselem Springs and spent a lot of days learning embroidery and hand-quilting with my grandmother. We would spend a lot of time sewing outdoors, there was something liberating and peaceful with the handwork. My grandmother also introduced me, even though I didn’t realize it at the time, to up-cycling fabrics. We would hand-sew crazy quilts with the most decorative embroidery stitches from all types of clothing.

As for the other side of me, the painting came from a neighbor who I admired. Whenever I saw her she would be working on an oil painting and would give me tips along the way. I was always drawing or creating and this continued over the years. In many ways my art and crafts has become my own personal therapy that helps me to relax and express myself, whether it’s a handbag or a painting, there’s a part of me in the final piece.

The prizes for this week’s giveaway are:
Larger Slouch Bag:
Made from up-cycled upholstery fabric and lined with hand-dyed upcycled fabric. Bag measures 14″ x 18″, three deep pockets and has a magnetic closure. Strap is an upcycled belt and can be adjusted from 20″ to 35″.

Zipper Pouch:
Made from coordinating fabric as the bag and measures 6″ x 7″. Great for everyday necessities or for keeping journal safe!

Journal:
Hand-painted canvas cover with mixed media art from an original beach scene. Journal cover has a wool felt lining and measure 3.5″ x 5.5″. Five signatures for a total of 120 pages, each signature wrapped in decorative mulberry paper and hand bound in linen thread.
