The holidays really do give us so many chances [to give, to feel joy, to learn]. I know, it sounds very cliche. The reality is… it’s often overwhelming. Here’s what I’m thinking… if we can just snatch a few moments here and there. Take a chance, let it settle in and enjoy.
I had a “holiday moment” this morning as I was putting this post together. Check out this 30 year holiday tradition made possible by volunteers at the Brandywine River Museum (Chadds Ford). Over 120
volunteers, otherwise known as the “glue gun gang” gather together to create over 9,000 “critter ornaments” for display and sale. These “critters” are made with found, natural materials gathered from fields, woods and roadsides near the museum.
Their “critters” have “adorned trees at the White House and the Smithsonian Institution.” The critter display is part of A Brandywine Christmas on view from November 27 until January 10, 2010.
The Critter Sale takes place on December 5 & 6. Seems like an obvious “must do.” Not to mention the museum itself, an absolute Pennsylvania treasure.
Speaking of Pennsylvania handmade treasures, check out these incredibly elegant ornaments from Balock Woodturning. They are handcrafted from woods “destined for the landfill or the fireplace.” Beautiful. This one is made with Pennsylvania Black Cherry.

Kate, along with her husband, bring together farm, food and design at The Steel Fork. They also design and create sculptural metalworks using recycled farm machinery – Gatski Metal. Kate is also the mother of two busy little children.

“glue gun gang”! Hehe. I wanna belong!
