My name is Layne Freedline. I am a prefessional jewelry artist.
I opened Layne Designs in 2008 to serve as a label for all of my handmade jewelry when I decided to take the leap of faith to open my own workshop in Philadelphia and make jewelry on a full time basis.
I’ve been fascinated with metals and stones since childhood. I’m so excited to wake up every day to be creative and do what I love. I’d like to take a minute to tell you about what I do and why I love it.
I specialize in heirloom quality one of a kind jewelry pieces from silver and gold. I have a Bachelors degree in jewelry and metalsmithing from Tyler School of Art at Temple University. And I have done three years of apprenticeship for 2 different jewelry artisans.
So when I say that I make jewelry, I’m sure that a lot of different things come to mind. It is certainly a hobby for a lot of people, and it means different things to everyone. Some people design jewelry and send it to a workshop to be made. Other people weave beads into lovely creations. I am a metalsmith and a stonesetter and ever since I started I felt destined to make it my life.
Find Layne Designs on Facebook, Twitter and at her blog. And visit her at the Pennsylvania Guild’s craft show on July 31 & August 1 in Wilmington, DE.
