Trading with other artisans is always a colossal pleasure, and sometimes includes a fun or interesting story.
When I was about 20 a boy asked me to paint him a sunflower in exchange for his car, which was a Dodge Dart. His name was actually Alan Dodge! He taught me how to sell floppy discs over the telephone in Santa Cruz, California*. In that same time period I traded a drawing for a beautiful hand dyed jacket.
Many years later another painting, Three Men in White Hats, was traded with my chiropractor for his Toyota Corolla, which got stolen in front of the Philadelphia row house we once lived in. Right in broad daylight while we were all inside (the row house, not the car).
Another memorable trade was a cloth goddess doll sculpture for a beautiful cream colored clay teapot with painted leaves that weighs about a ton. I lost the lid but still use it for flowers. Many collage art mermaid paper dolls have been traded over the years for all kinds of goodies and gifts.
I’ve also trading writing for sound healing sessions with Lynn Miller. She’s an amazing and gifted artist/musician/healer, and sound healing was a whole new and fabulous experience. I also traded a WrapADoodle with her for one of her art workshops!
Lately I’ve been trading WrapADoodle Swaddle Blankets for jewelry, including the lovely sterling silver ring above from Amy Ragsdale Designs which I love so much and wear every day.
Last weekend I traded an absolutely unique artistic sterling bracelet from Roggio Jewelry. And Oh Yes! The ring, bracelet and WrapADoodles were all Handmade in PA!
The bracelet went into a gift box for my best friend who happens to be an artist, (imagine that) to thank her for creating the WrapADoodle logo into Illustrator to upload to print a giant banner. And round and round we go…….
What have YOU traded lately?
*editor’s note: Victoria is going to have to explain this sentence in greater detail sometime.
Victoria O'Neill, a multiple mediums artist and owner of ArtyPantz Productions LLC has been sharing her creativity with people of all ages for years. "I love people and I love to make things. Creativity flows through me like a hose on full blast, spraying in many directions, all at once."
