Great trading stories! Oh my, I have traded for everything and anything. Hair sticks, felt food, soap, among others. Love to trade!

Being successful and bartering are not mutually exclusive! Many successful businesses offer bartering. My family had a newspaper and a live theater and we traded advertising space for all kinds of things. It's common practice in the business world, and a lovely one at that. As far as the IRS is concerned, my accountant takes care of all that for me.

btw, there is a Time Bank in Phoenixville which is all about bartering. Here is a link to it.

explaniation: floppy disks are those flexible discs that used to go into computers to store information on! not to be confused with the hard disc that was inside the computer!
this was back in the 70"s before the personal computer.

It really concerns me that a site focused on helping artists and crafts people become more successful in their art or craft business suggests "trading work."

The I.R. S. considers a trade as a form of barter.
There are strict rules about this issue which you can find here:

How can you manage your inventory as a business if you are giving your work away as a trade?

Sorry to rain on your parade, but this is not sound business practice.

On the other hand, if making your art or craft as a hobby without reporting your business on Schedule C, as part of your tax return, then just trade away.

Trades are so much fun! Most recently is a trade for pottery!

Thank goodness we have an editor here who pays attention.....hahahaha! The image of being inside the car while it's being stolen comes to mind as a cartoon.

I was at a craft show this weekend selling my handbags when a customer complimented me on my beaded eyeglass holder and asked if I had made it. I did make it and she asked it I sell them. I don't. But I do have a huge stash of beads hiding in the corner of my sewing studio and when she asked if I would make her a holder I agreed. She then told me she works in a barber shop and said that they do women's hair too. So the plan is to trade a haircut for me, for a beaded eyeglass holder for her!

Last night, I made 9 ATCs that will be traded. I think I'm just about to be bit by the ATC bug... :)
