Local Sphere is a unique, brand new HAPPENING! brick and mortar that just joined the Phoenixville, PA Renaissance. Doors opened last Wednesday afternoon, the ribbon was cut, and the rumpus began, featuring: ARTS! MUSIC! EDUCATION! COMMUNITY! These are just a few of my favorite things :) and having them all coming together under one roof is the cat’s meow and the dog’s bow wow.
This fabulous place is a market where people, ideas and goods meet. Just days old, it has already become a hub of local connections and creative energy. Local artists and craftspeople are offering paintings, photography, drawings, jewelry, fiber and found art, and more. You can even buy local packaged food. Local musicians are performing, jamming and selling their CD’s.
There have been a few demonstrations, including monoprinting, glass blowing, theatrics and more. Classes and workshops are forming. There was a community potluck on Saturday! People are happy to have a place to get together and be creative with their hands, hearts and minds.
Well, of course Local Sphere is a unique place. The idea and the actualization of it sprang from the innovative Sphere College Project, envisioned and founded by Richard Liston in 2009 to provide unique, individualized higher learning in the community. The college provides an environment for each student to discover and pursue their passion and vocation for enrichment of the human experience.
Since Local Sphere is part of the college, there’s a store/music playing area in the front, and a classroom in the back, divided by a large and lovely upright piano. I’m assuming that by now there are displays in the front windows. It’s a work in progress!
If you’re an artist, musician, teacher, student, friend, community organizer, visionary, inventor, or any kind of person you must stop by and catch the buzz. Whatever it is that you are interested in giving or receiving, you will be loving Local Sphere. Everyone is truely welcome!
Local Sphere is open four days per week. 12 S. Main Street in Phoenixville PA 19460.
There is street and parking lot parking available.
