Aye. But now, it’s time to get cracking on Valentines!
We’re going to try making our own crayons for Evie’s classmates and playgroup friends. I saw some pretty simple instructions on Pinterest a long time ago and we’ve been harboring spurned crayon bits in a Ziploc bag in our pantry ever since. I’ll attach the crayon to a little card, or maybe put it in a small bag, with a cute note, probably saying something like “You Color My World, Valentine.”
I’m not opposed to edible treats, but if I know there will be a lot of them anyway, I try to think outside the box to offset the sugar factor. But, trust me, there is NOTHING WRONG with, say, a Whitman’s Sampler or a Reese’s Peanut Butter Heart. Or 10 of them.
We’ve got the crayons and the cards, and all I need to get is the silicone heart tray. Jo-Ann is running a sale including 30% off all Wilton Valentine foodcrafting supplies until February 2nd which is sweet. I love it when I can make something cute and memorable and it doesn’t cost a fortune.
I’ll report on my progress in my next post. I’ve peeked inside my bin of Valentine’s decorations and I might give myself the year off in terms of making more things. I’ve got a lot. However, I do love V-Day and can always be enticed to make something else. I’m very easily persuaded by inspiration and craft supplies, you know.

This is a great idea! I have bags of “orphaned crayons” of school years past. I’ll need to go get one of those molds. Using crayon scraps reminds me of the craft we did when I was in elementary school one autumn. We collected beautiful fall leaves and put them on a sheet of waxed paper. We shaved old crayons on top of the leaves and paper, then sealed it with another sheet of waxed paper. After placing a white cloth over the top of it all, the project was ironed, then framed with colored paper. What a neat stained glass creation! :)
